Responsibilities

  • Supervise and perform activities of the Accounting Department, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable, to include elevated vendor communications when necessary. This will require proficiency in each of these processes.
  • Conduct staff meetings or confer with subordinate personnel to discuss operational needs or explain procedural changes or practices.
  • Performs analysis on balance sheet and income statement accounts and reconciles as necessary. Assists with asset and liability roll-forward schedules.
  • Facilitate organizational change efforts designed to create a corporate culture that supports the business plan and mission.
  • Assists in monitoring capital assets, depreciation calculations, cash management, inventory control, general ledger activities and account balances.
  • Review contracts and advise appropriate accounting treatment under GASB regulations regarding leases and agreements to include retention of reviewed documents. Develops and maintains repository of contract documentation and advises of upcoming expirations.
  • Compiles and analyzes periodic financial information to prepare entries documenting business transactions.
  • Assists in the monitoring of the company operating budget and interacts with department leaders, Controller, and CFO regarding inquiries and budget variances.
  • May review and approve accounting entries for posting to general ledger system, month-end financial statements, and reports.
  • Assists with month end accrual entries, monitors accruals for accuracy, and prepares schedules for accrual accounts ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
  • Reviews W-9 forms and prepares annual 1099 returns for filing.
  • Assist Controller with quarterly and end-of-year external requests from outside parties (e.g. TGA, State and external auditors).
  • Assists in development and drafting of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Communicates updates to team members as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Tribal, State, Federal, and NIGC regulations.
  • Ensure control/protection of company assets.
  • Create, implement, and assess training programs.
  • Duties, responsibilities, requirements, and expectations pertaining to this job are subject to change as needed.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  
  • Work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Exceptional guest service skills required.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Business Administration or Accounting from four-year College or university and five to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Able to demonstrate understanding of general ledger structure and financial statement composition.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with implementing GASB regulations related to leases and agreements.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, fractions, percentages, and ratios to practical solutions.
  • Must be customer service oriented and have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment dealing with sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality with strong attention to detail and excellent problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional, courteous, and effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and outside business contacts.
  • Proven intermediate skills in Windows, MS Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and experience with database systems. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, charts, forms, and other information and instructions.


Certificates, Licenses, Regulations

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A gaming license from the Stillaguamish Tribal Gaming Agency and Washington State.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Constantly requires the ability to receive detailed information through oral and written communication. The position requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires repetitive movement daily with sedentary work, occasional bending and crouching. This is a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation.
