Responsibilities
- Applying accounting techniques and procedures in the course of completing work.
- Obtain and maintain a good working knowledge of the general ledger accounts.
- Direct the month and closing process and ensure books are closed on time.
- Ensure necessary reporting is complete before the next month is opened.
- Reconcile bank statements.
- Provide training for all staff in accounting department.
- Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine transactions.
- Ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
- Prepare books for the end of physical year review.
- Assist in preparing books for audit.
- Completes all work in a timely and satisfactory manner.
- Correctly completes all required paperwork per company procedure.
- Attends all mandatory department, casino and/or training meetings.
- Follows all department and casino policies, procedures, and regulations as required.
- Ensures compliance with Tribal, State, Federal, and NIGC regulations.
- Ensures control/protection of company assets as applicable.
- Duties, responsibilities, requirements and expectations pertaining to this job are subject to change as needed.
- Work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Exceptional guest service skills required.
- Bachelor’s degree required from a four-year college in accounting with at least two - four years related work experience in accounting or business management.
- Ability to work independently and perform assignments with moderate direction.
- Ability to prepare worksheets and reports on spreadsheets required.
- Ability to compare data from two or more sources for accuracy and completeness required.
- Excellent data entry and follow up skills required.
- Must be customer service oriented and have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Ability to work in a challenging environment dealing with sensitive issues and maintain confidentially with strong attention to detail and excellent problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain professional, courteous, and effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and outside business contacts.
- Proven intermediate skills in Windows, MS Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and experience with database systems. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, charts, forms and other information and instructions.
- Professional and neat appearance and positive and friendly attitude required.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals
- Work with Chief Financial Officer to ensure proper controls are in place and maintained
- Working knowledge of general business, administration and accounting practices required.
- Ability to read, comprehend and apply written procedures required.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions required.
- Working knowledge of filing and record keeping systems required.
- Ability to apply and work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, commissions, interest to practical solutions.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and guest service skills required.
- Skills in solving practical problems and dealing with situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Skills in identifying and resolving administrative problems under pressure conditions.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Regulations
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A/3 gaming license from the Stillaguamish Tribal Gaming Agency and Washington State.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Constantly requires the ability to receive detailed information through oral and written communication. The position requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires repetitive movement daily with sedentary work, occasional bending and crouching. There are no adverse conditions, but employee is exposed to tobacco smoke on a regular basis. This is a 24 hour, 7 days a week work operation.
